SESAR e-learning

VO Group

Brussels Airlines

This is a e-learning application available on the intranet and partially on the website

Objectives

SESAR is the European air traffic control infrastructure modernisation programme. SESAR aims at developing the new generation air traffic management system capable of ensuring the safety and fluidity of air transport worldwide over the next 30 years.

The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) was created under European Community law on 27 February 2007, with EUROCONTROL and the European Community as founding members, in order to manage the SESAR Development Phase.

The complexity of the SESAR programme and the huge number of stakeholders made it mandatory to create an attractive e-learning platform fully integrated to the SESAR JU intranet and partially available from the website.

The platform will be a crucial training channel and is expected to meet the highest quality standards of on-line learning.

Project Description

The content is the core component of e-learning and includes issues such as pedagogical approach and learning object re-use.

Due to the success brought by virtual teaching methods, much effort has been put into the technical reuse of electronically-based teaching materials and in particular creating or re-using Learning Objects. These are self contained units that are properly tagged with keywords, or other metadata, and often stored in an XML file format. Creating a course requires putting together a sequence of learning objects.

To facilitate this process, a common standard format for e-learning content has been established and is called SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model). It is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning.

It defines communications between client side content and a host system called a learning management system (LMS) Moodle.

Emakina has considered using a third-party platform to manage learning modules, learning resources, learner groups,…

Services provided

Moodle LMS Implementation

Wireframes
  • Provide a model to structure pages content and first layout for creative approach;
  • Drawing of first essential models of pages

Mock-up

Based on the wireframes deliverables, Emakina made two graphical proposals for the website. It was used as a guiding thread to follow during development.

Graphical templates

The graphical templates for the core Portal is declined based on the approved creative proposal.

  • HTML Templates Integration
  • Testing & follow-up
  • Site ready on staging server
  • Migration to production server

User interface development

Storyboarding

The storyboard is a precise description of the programme, shot by shot, including sketches of what is actually seen in the frame, with all technical indications for the developers/designers.

Graphical assets

All graphical assets from the storyboard is designed first as static images with Photoshop and Illustrator software.

Shooting

A video of the key speakers on the welcome pages will have to be shot. In order to further exploit the video material for the web, the video was shot in a professional studio with a “Blue-key” background.

Voice recording

Voices of the speakers was recorded in a professional studio in order to meet high professional standard.

Editing

Sound files, video sequence and graphical assets are edited in Final Cut pro and Adobe after effects for final export on the web. (.flv format to be embedded in a swf object).

Integration

Files optilmisation and Integration of the swf objects within the LMS platform.

Design e-learning modules & integration

Storyboarding

The storyboard is a precise description of the animations, shot by shot, including sketches of what is actually seen in the frame, with all technical indications for the developers/designers.

The storyboard was detailed specifically for each of the 13 modules and was designed in coordination with Bearing Point in workshops sessions.

Graphical assets

All graphical assets from the storyboard were designed first as static images with Photoshop and Illustrator software.

Flash animation

Flash formatting and optimisation of all graphical assets. Graphical assets animated according the storyboard.

Actionscripting development

Coding (Action Script language) of all interactivity within the files (buttons, actions, methods, results, etc)

SCORM standardization

Adaptation of each flash objects to the SCORM standard.

Certification integration

Certification is mandatory and will be linked to the identification of the trainee. It is based on scoring of the participant for each module.
