Objectives
The audiovisual portal of the EC gives the opportunity to access all audiovisual material 24/7. The aim of the project was to revamp the look and feel of the portal by re-thinking the usability and architecture and by redesigning the full portal. This work was done keeping in mind the necessity to promote the aforementioned material and be compatible with new devices/tools (RSS/PSP/GSM/IPHONE/PDA, etc.). The services to be provided through the audiovisual portal of the European Commission are:
- Deliver audiovisual material for the media professionals at a worldwide scale
- Offer to the media professionals current fragments of images, videos, audio as well as the audiovisual archive on the history of the European Union.
- Package information on the European Union news, created as professional video, photo formats.
- Develop on demand a theme regarding the European Union for journalists.
Description
Architecture and Design
Emakina had undertaken the technical and functional analysis of the new portal (currently under construction) and made sure that the new design would be compatible with the technologies and tools described below. Users tests were conducted and wire frames were designed for every single type of page of the new portal.
Rich Media
More dynamism, interactivity and demonstration of high-end information solutions were to be provided to the Audiovisual Services users. The latest information technologies (video and audio sequences) should be embedded. Formats for better distribution through the media (RSS, PSP, GSM, iTune, iPhone, mobile telephone, PDA) are integrated and have a corresponding look & feel.
